Christoph Konig will replace Fruhbeck for L.A. Phil dates

The L.A. Philharmonic announced that conductor Christoph König will be stepping in for a run of local concerts scheduled through this weekend in place of Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, who was forced to cancel because of illness.
The performance will mark the Walt Disney Concert Hall debut for the German-born König, who performed with the Pacific Symphony this year. In addition to the Disney dates, he will return to Orange County in a Saturday night performance with the L.A. Phil at the Renée & Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.
König is principal conductor of the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto and music director of the Solistes Européens Luxembourg. The run of performances will also feature guitarist Pepe Romero, who will be joining the Philharmonic for the first time in 20 years on Joaquín Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez.”
Also scheduled for the performances, which begin at 8 p.m. Thursday and continue through Sunday, are Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 and Dvorák’s Scherzo Capriccioso. The Dvorák piece will be performed in place of Joaquín Turina’s “Danzas fantásticas.” The Saturday performance is being presented by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County.
