Emmy chat: Join ‘House of Cards’ fixer Michael Kelly live on Monday

He’s the right-hand man who had us thinking he was veering left.
As chief of staff Doug Stamper on “House of Cards,” Michael Kelly has gone to great lengths to demonstrate his loyalty to now-President Frank Underwood. Coming off a whirlwind second season, in which he was hit repeatedly in the head with a rock and left for dead in the finale, Kelly’s Stamper came to the forefront in the Netflix drama’s third outting.

A through-line in the third season was how Stamper, no longer part of Underwood’s brain trust, went to work for Underwood’s presidential rival Heather Dunbar as a way to climb back to his top position in Underwood’s cadre. In the process, he saw Underwood for the power-hungry monster he really is. Oh, and he did all this while trying to overcome addiction and a twisted, broken heart.
It’s a lot for any actor to tackle and the Television Academy seems to have taken notice of that journey, rewarding the actor with a nomination.
