Bomb squad at Hollywood and Highland on reports of explosives inside car

The Los Angeles Police Department’s bomb squad has descended on Highland Avenue near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard -- a stone’s throw from the upcoming Academy Awards show -- on reports of explosives inside a car’s trunk.
After stopping a reckless driver Thursday afternoon, the driver informed police that his trunk was full of explosives, said Lt. Michael Ling.
With the help of a robot, police bomb squad unit has fired a water cannon on the car in order to open the trunk -- causing a loud boom heard by witnesses, Ling said.
Officials have not yet confirmed if explosives are inside the vehicle.
Security in the nearby Lowes Hotel has asked guests to stay clear of the windows as a security precaution.
