A Marine has died during training at Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps said.
Pfc. Clinton James, 25, died Monday. No details of his death were announced.
James, from Lenawee, Mich., enlisted in October and was undergoing combat training at the school of infantry.
“Pfc. James’ death is a loss to our command and the Marine Corps family,” said Col. Christopher Williams, commander of the school of infantry.
James had attended Michigan State and Eastern Michigan University before enlisting, according to the Monroe Evening News.
“He was the smartest person I knew,” his sister, Jessica Horton, told the newspaper. “He had a thirst for any kind of knowledge.”
James hoped to be a Marine journalist after finishing combat training, Horton said.
The death is under investigation, the Marine Corps said.
