Mandatory evacuations are underway in three Riverside County communities near Banning after a fast-moving wildfire broke out shortly after 2 p.m.
The Silver fire, which had consumed more than 300 acres by 4 p.m., has prompted mandatory evacuation orders in Poppet Flats, Twin Pines and Silent Valley, said CalFire spokesman Daniel Berlant.
State Highway 243 has already been closed due to the fire and its direction.
“It’s a very, very fast-moving fire,” Berlant said.
Information on an evacuation center was not immediately available.
Nearly 500 firefighters were battling the blaze, as were four air tankers, five helicopters and two bulldozers, according to a CalFire spokesman.
