Aidan Dolan, known more for his three-point shooting on the basketball court, came through with a complete-game pitching performance for Chaminade on Friday in a semifinal game of the National High School Invitational in Cary, N.C.
He allowed six hits, struck out two and walked one to help the Eagles defeat Florence, 8-2, and advance to Saturday morning’s championship game at 8:30 a.m. (West Coast time) against Southern California rival Huntington Beach.
Huntington Beach won its semifinal, 3-1, over Georgia Allatoona. Cory Moore allowed five hits in six innings. Kobe Anton got the save. Moore and Trevor Windisch each had two hits.
Chaminade’s tough one-two batters in its lineup, Blake Rutherford and Nick Kahle, continue to cause damage. Rutherford had two more hits and Kahle had a double, single and two RBIs. Blake Mann added two hits and Anthony Acosta had two RBIs.
In a consolation game, Santa Ana Mater Dei lost to Flanagan, 4-3. Maxwell Foxcroft had two hits.
