Boys’ baskeball: Akil Hall Reese is cleared to play for Westchester

Akil Hall Reese, a 6-foot-3 senior guard who was a key player for Westchester’s City Section runner-up team last season, was cleared on Thursday by his doctor to return to playing.
He has spent all season trying to recover from a torn ACL suffered during the summer.
He has engaged in light practices and it remains to be seen how much he’ll play for the Comets, who open the City Section Open Division playoffs on Saturday at home against Crenshaw.
But his availability will certainly give Coach Ed Azzam more options for a team that’s seeded No. 3 in the tournament and coming off a win over No. 1-seeded Fairfax.
