USC receives at-large berth in men’s volleyball Final Four

UC Irvine is seeded first and USC second in the NCAA men’s volleyball Final Four that will be played Thursday and Saturday at the Galen Center.
Irvine (24-5) earned the top seeding by winning the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament championship with a five-set victory over Stanford on Saturday night.
The Anteaters defeated top-ranked USC, the MPSF regular-season champion, in five sets in the semifinals, ending the Trojans’ 18-match winning streak.
Irvine will play one semifinal against Penn State (23-5), the winner of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn.
USC (23-5) will play Lewis University (26-6), which defeated Ohio State to win the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volley Assn. tournament.
The NCAA committee chose USC over Stanford and Brigham Young for the at-large berth.
