NEW YORK — The captive flight engineer of hijacked TWA flight 847 sent greetings to his 88-year-old father Wednesday, evidently unaware that he had died of a heart attack on Saturday.
Benjamin Zimmermann was asked during an ABC interview if he had a message for his family. “Well, just to tell them, my wife, Melvia, Elizabeth, Steven and Eric and my father, that everything is OK,” Zimmermann said.
His father, the Rev. Elmer C. Zimmermann, 88, a Lutheran, died in St. Louis on Saturday while joining in a prayer vigil for his son.
