George Boggs, associate dean of instruction at an Oroville, Calif., community college, has been named president and superintendent of Palomar Community College after a six-month nationwide search.
College officials said Boggs, 40, will assume his new post Monday under a three-year contract. He will receive $62,500 his first year.
Boggs replaces Omar Scheidt, president of the college for eight years. Palomar’s Board of Trustees voted 4-1 in November not to renew Scheidt’s contract, which expires Sunday. Scheidt reportedly was unpopular with the faculty and routinely excluded them from decision making.
Boggs began his teaching career as a founding faculty member in chemistry at Butte Community College in Oroville, about 70 miles north of Sacramento.
