Computer Chip Plant to Close

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — A continuing slump in the semiconductor industry prompted Intel Corp. to announce about 950 layoffs and a plant closure today. The company will phase out its smallest and oldest wafer fabrication plant, located in Santa Clara. Nearly 100 employees who work at that plant will lose their jobs, the company said.
