UCLA Takes Care of Chapman, 8-1

The Chapman College doubles pair of John Soldat and Olivier Amerlinck had the only win Tuesday afternoon for the Panthers’ men’s tennis team in an 8-1 loss at UCLA.
Soldat and Amerlinck defeated Mike Kures and Dan Nahirney, the 10th-ranked division I doubles team, 7-6, 7-5.
The Bruins are ranked fifth in division I, and Chapman (18-6) is the top-ranked team in division II.
The No. 1 Chapman singles player, Troy Turnbull, lost to Kures, 6-3, 6-3.
In nonconference play:
Fullerton 5, Cal Poly Pomona 4--Wayne Dennen and Kevin Joe defeated Tuan Nguyen and Ihab Issa, 6-3, 6-3, in doubles to give the Titans (4-14) their first win in two months. Fausto Bucheli, Tom Leffler, Dennen and Joe all won their singles matches for Fullerton.
In South Coast Conference community college action:
Saddleback 9, Mt. San Antonio College 0--Dana Bozeman defeated David Pinard, 6-1, 6-3 to lead the Gauchos (9-0, 12-1). Mark Alba and Mike Boice combined to win the No. 1 doubles match over Tony Bouchereau and Dan Kirkland. Saddleback plays at Fullerton Thursday.
Rancho Santiago 6, Cypress 3--The Dons (5-4) won four of six singles’ matches at Cypress to take control of the match.
