A former Laotian general who is now a leader of the refugee Hmong community in the United States chided his people in Fresno for threatening to murder social workers who visit their homes unannounced. Vang Pao, who once led Hmong soldiers in a Central Intelligence Agency-sponsored drive against the communist Pathet Lao--and now lives in Garden Grove--told the refugees they must obey welfare rules, whether they like them or not, and “not do anything to hurt American people,” for “this is not part of my plan for the Hmong.” He speculated that the threats may have been inspired by communists, infiltrating the Lao Family Community Inc., which he founded in 1975. “They are trying to confuse my people all the time,” he said.
