The Nebraska mandatory seat belt law has been repealed by a margin of about 0.1%. Officials said the margin was 561 votes, with the percentages standing at 50.052% opposed and 49.948% for the law. They said official results are expected around Dec. 1. Jack Merritt, consultant for Nebraskans for Safety, a group favoring seat belts, blamed the defeat of the law on voter negativism on other issues and races. He pointed to a referendum on the state’s school consolidation law, which lost by a wide margin.
