Honeywell reported higher second-quarter income of $54.3 million, up from $43.8 million a year ago. The Minneapolis-based international electronics company said cost-cutting actions begun in 1986 continued to have a positive effect on earnings and that total orders for the company were up substantially in the second quarter. Worldwide sales in the quarter were $1.575 billion, up from $1.326 billion in 1986.
