AST Research Inc. of Irvine has appointed Jim Ashbrook to the newly created position of senior vice president of the company’s Data Communications Group.

Ashbrook, who formerly headed AST’s sales organization, will supervise development of AST’s expanding line of data communications products for personal computers. AST is a major manufacturer of enhancement products for computers manufactured by IBM, Apple and DEC.
