COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Florida State Enjoys 31-Point Quarter En Route to 73-14 Victory Over Tulane

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State’s Danny McManus sparked a 31-point second-quarter with three touchdown passes as the fourth-ranked Seminoles rolled to a 73-14 victory over Tulane Saturday night.
Sammie Smith and Dayne Williams scored three touchdowns apiece for the Seminoles (7-1), who led 38-7 at the half and 66-7 after three quarters.
Florida State rolled up 604 yards in offense as McManus completed 14 of 17 attempts for 256 yards in just over a half.
Smith set a school record by gaining more than 100 yards for the fourth straight game. He carried 14 times for 111 yards, including scoring runs of 55 and 8 yards. The 220-pound sophomore tailback also caught 3 passes for 87 yards.
Tulane (4-4) went ahead, 7-0, in the opening minutes when Terrence Jones threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Marc Zeno. Jones completed 14 of 27 attempts for 138 yards but was intercepted twice.
Florida State’s Derek Schmidt kicked a 33-yard field goal and 10 extra points, moving into second place among all-time National Collegiate Athletic Assn. scorers with 360 points. With three games left, Schmidt trails former Arizona State kicker Luis Zendejas, who has 368 points.
