Manitowoc High School’s 48-game winning streak, the longest in the country, ended when it lost to Fond du Lac, 27-15, in a Wisconsin state playoff game at Fond du Lac, Wis.
Manitowoc, three-time defending champion in Division I of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Assn., had not lost since 1983, when it was beaten by Green Bay Southwest.
After that loss, Manitowoc went on to win the final two games of 1983 and put together three straight 12-0 seasons. Manitowoc was 10-0 before Saturday’s loss to Fond du Lac, a team it had beaten 7-0 in the regular season.
