NBA Roundup : Pistons Get Past Kings for 16th Straight at Home

From Times Wire Services

Adrian Dantley scored 19 points and Bill Laimbeer added 18 Monday night to lead the Detroit Pistons to a club-record 16th straight home-court victory, a 109-97 win over the Sacramento Kings at Pontiac, Mich.

The Pistons, whose 28-4 home record is the best in the National Basketball Assn., haven’t been beaten at the Silverdome since a 106-104 loss to the Lakers on Jan. 8. Detroit set its previous record of 15 consecutive home victories from Jan. 15 to March 4, 1986.

Dantley passed George Gervin for 12th place on the NBA career scoring list with 20,715 points.

Utah 116, Denver 115--Thurl Bailey scored a career-high 41 points, including a turnaround jumper with seven seconds to play that gave the Jazz a victory over the Nuggets at Denver.

Bailey helped Utah overcome the ejection of forward Karl Malone and Coach Frank Layden in the first quarter.

Denver’s Michael Adams set an NBA record by taking 15 three-point shots, breaking the mark of 13 set by Denver’s John Roche in 1982. Adams also tied the record Danny Ainge set earlier this season by hitting a three-point basket in 23 straight games.

New York 104, Cleveland 102--Bill Cartwright and Mark Jackson scored 17 points each at New York and rallied the Knicks past the Cavaliers, who took their ninth straight road loss.

Jackson had 15 points and Cartwright 13 in the second half as the Knicks came back from a 15-point third-quarter deficit to win for the 15th time in 16 games at Madison Square Garden. Jackson also passed off for 11 assists, and had 8 rebounds and 4 steals.

Larry Nance had 24 points for Cleveland.

Washington 112, San Antonio 106--Jeff Malone scored 36 points, and Moses Malone added 32 points and 13 rebounds at Landover, Md., as the Bullets handed the Spurs their seventh straight defeat.

The victory maintained the Bullets’ half-game lead over the Knicks and moved them one game ahead of the idle Philadelphia 76ers in the race for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Dallas 121, Golden State 101--Mark Aguirre scored 20 points, and Sam Perkins and Roy Tarpley added 18 apiece as the Mavericks beat the Warriors at Dallas.

Tarpley had 16 rebounds and Perkins had 13 for the Mavericks, who have won 14 of their last 17 games.
