BARNSTABLE, Mass. — Joan Kennedy, the former wife of U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, on Tuesday was placed on probation for one year and lost her driver’s license for 45 days after she did not contest a charge of drunk driving.
Joan Kennedy, 51, appeared briefly in Barnstable District Court and acknowledged that “there are sufficient facts for a finding of guilty. It’s like offering no defense,” prosecutor Richard Piazza said. She also was ordered to pay $677 in fees and fines and to participate in a state alcohol-education program.
