Local News in Brief : Newborn Boy Found in Bag Near Trash Cans

A newborn baby boy was found abandoned in a plastic bag early Monday near some North Hollywood trash cans, Los Angeles police said.
Three men collecting cans, bottles and cardboard for recycling found the baby, still covered with blood and with its umbilical cord and placenta attached, after they saw the plastic bag move and heard crying, Detective Jorge Armenta said.
The child was found at about 4:30 a.m. in the 6300 block of Camellia Avenue near Sylvan Street, a neighborhood of single-family homes, police said.
Paramedics took the child to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where officials said he was suffering from hypothermia. Armenta said the child was in good condition.
The infant will be placed in the custody of the Los Angeles County Department of Children’s Services when he is released from the hospital.
