Southland’s A Classic Dash Wins All American Futurity

RUIDOSO DOWNS, N.M. — A Classic Dash, who won the Dash For Cash Futurity at Los Alamitos in late July, won the $1,937,035 All American Futurity on Monday by a nose.
Connie Hall of Anaheim became the first female trainer to win the All American. A Classic Dash is the first California-based winner since Eastex in 1984.
Owned by Abigail Kawananakoa and ridden by Eddie Garcia, the leading rider at Los Alamitos, A Classic Dash edged 20-1 longshot Heza Fast Man by a nose for his seventh victory in eight starts. The victory was worth $1 million for Kawananakoa, who has a ranch in Nuevo, Calif.
“I don’t think it’s hit yet,” Hall said. “I’ve run a lot of horses and today I said to myself, ‘Do you realize you have a horse in the All American?’ He ran great. I couldn’t have asked any more from him.”
A Classic Dash led throughout the 440-yard race and was timed in 21.51 seconds. Treacherously, who had a chance to become only the second horse to win the quarter horse Triple Crown, finished third after bumping with Merganser Line at the start. Treacherously finished 1 1/4 lengths behind A Classic Dash.
Special Effort won the quarter horse Triple Crown in 1981.
