Steve Berrard to Quit as Blockbuster President: The executive said he will become chief executive of AutoNation USA, a new nationwide chain of used-car lots whose partners include Berrard’s longtime mentor, former Blockbuster Chairman H. Wayne Huizenga. Berrard’s departure had been expected. He also resigned as a member of the board of Blockbuster parent Viacom Inc. In an interview, Berrard said he wanted an entrepreneurial opportunity again. Although Viacom did not name a successor, Gerald Geddis, Blockbuster president of worldwide operations, is considered by insiders to be the leading candidate. Geddis has been running Blockbuster’s day-to-day operations.
