Oxnard College will celebrate its 20th anniversary Thursday with an open house highlighting many of the school’s programs. “This is a chance to let people in the community know we are here and that we are growing,” said Kay Faulconer, vice president of instructional services. “We want people to know we are a community asset and we are here to help.”
Faulconer said many of the college’s resources and programs are new and the public does not know about them. The college has invited members of several local chambers of commerce to attend.
Students from the hotel and restaurant management program will prepare food, while art students will display their work, including ceramics and paintings.
The open house will also feature exhibits from the social sciences, auto body, English as a second language, child development, fire technology, language arts, sign language and business and technology programs.
A historical exhibit will showcase the college’s early days when classes were held in storefronts throughout Oxnard, Faulconer said.
Students from the Oxnard College television station will film the event.
The open house will be held in the Oxnard College Gymnasium, 4000 S. Rose Ave., from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 986-5814.
