It said controlling interest in Press-Enterprise is held by the families of Howard H. “Tim” Hays and his brothers. The Press-Enterprise, with daily circulation of 169,231, would be the first Southern California newspaper property for A.H. Belo, publisher of the Dallas Morning News, the Owensboro (Ky.) Messenger-Inquirer, the Bryan-College Station (Texas) Eagle, the Arlington (Texas) Morning News, eight community newspapers and seven network-affiliated television stations.
