WHITES INCLUDED

Lisa Broadwater writes that Gary Soto’s family “was uprooted from a neighborhood full of friends and relatives to a mostly white community where they knew no one” (“If Fresno Could Write,” June 9). That implies that Mexican Americans cannot be white.
Mexicans are not Anglo, but they can indeed be white--or of African American, Asian American or various other descents.
