ALISO VIEJO — A fire that destroyed 19 acres of brush Friday was started when a bird landed on a high-tension electrical wire.
The blaze occurred at 2:30 p.m. near Pacific Park Drive and Chase, said Capt. Scott Brown, spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority. About 75 firefighters aided by two water-dropping helicopters controlled the flames about 2 1/2 hours later, Brown said.
Firefighters said birds usually aren’t electrocuted when they land on wires, but it does sometimes happen with high-tension lines.
One firefighter suffered minor smoke inhalation. No homes were threatened, and no on else was injured.
