City officials said that although they don’t anticipate problems because of Y2K, they have taken precautions just in case.

In the event of failed traffic signals, the city has purchased 100 portable stop signs and barricades to help direct traffic.

To protect against sewage overflow into the streets in the event of a failed sewage pumping station, the city has rented an emergency generator.

Several city staff members will be on hand at City Hall on New Year’s Eve, and the rest of the staff will be on call to help in the event of an emergency.

“We’ve taken all the precautionary steps we’ve been able to think of,” said Mark Lloyd, Stanton’s community development director.
