* While L.A. school Supt. Ruben Zacarias is nursing hurt feelings over Don Mullinax’s Belmont report (“Zacarias Considering Defamation Lawsuit,” Sept. 23), I am doing my best to teach my students this semester with nothing more than my trusty box of chalk. We are desperately overcrowded. Our year-round schedule deprives already deprived students of approximately three weeks per year of instructional time. My students have no textbooks. For the past month I have not even had the privilege of photocopies. Thanks to a teacher in another department, though, I will have enough chalk to take me through the rest of this semester and the next.
