Three of Newport Beach’s Fire and Marine employees were recognized recently for their work and service to the community at the Lifeguard and Firefighter Appreciation Day.
Ron Guiterrez was named Firefighter of the Year; Jim Turner, Marine Safety Officer of the Year, and Josh van Egmond, Seasonal Lifeguard of the Year.
Guiterrez has served the Fire and Marine Department for 2 1/2 years, Turner for 27 years and Egmond, 14 years.
All three “have been exemplary employees”, said Newport Beach Fire and Marine Lt. John Blauer. “It’s just our way of thanking them.”
They were all recognized at a gala in Newport Dunes that featured dinner, dancing and fireworks. The event was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
