The City Council on Tuesday approved a recount of the ballots in the 1st District City Council race that City Hall veteran Ed P. Reyes won by a tiny margin in the April 10 municipal election.
Reyes won 50.27% of the vote, followed by attorney Robert Nakahiro with 29.74% and community college instructor David Sanchez, who had 19.99%, according to the final tally released last week by the city clerk’s office.
With 9,188 votes, Reyes finished 43 votes above the 50% threshold that would put him into a June runoff election with Nakahiro, according to the official results. The council district includes parts of Mount Washington, Highland Park, Chinatown and Pico-Union.
