No. 17 San Pedro defeated No. 18 Lakewood, 2-1, as junior pitcher Ashley Esparza (11-0) hit a two-run homer and gave up only her third run of the season and first earned.
Etiwanda freshman Danielle Spaulding and her older sister, senior Amber, hit consecutive home runs in a 12-0 victory over Claremont.
NUMBERS GAME
Irvine Woodbridge’s doubleheader sweep of Huntington Beach Marina gave Coach Alan Dugard his 300th victory with the Warriors. Dugard, in his 13th season, is 300-98 with 11 Sea View League titles and three Southern Section championships.
Anaheim Canyon won three consecutive games by scores of 6-1 against Dana Point Dana Hills, Placentia El Dorado and Santa Ana Foothill.
Amanda Klimczak of Diamond Ranch struck out 21 in nine innings but lost, 2-1, to San Dimas in the Charter Oak tournament.
Five players -- Devon Hofland, Andi Ramirez, Kristen Wayne, Nicole Hartfield and Nicole Mears -- had four hits each in Simi Valley Royal’s 19-0 victory over Calabasas. The Highlanders had 28 hits.
ON DECK
The 32-team Woodbridge tournament begins Saturday at Irvine’s Barber Park with play-in and first-round games. Quarterfinals are Monday and the final two rounds are April 19. Participating teams include No. 2 Garden Grove Pacifica, No. 4 Orange El Modena, No. 6 Thousand Oaks, No. 10 Corona and No. 18 Lakewood. Woodbridge, Lake Forest El Toro and Fountain Valley have also been ranked in the top 25. Looking for a dark horse? Dana Hills, which is matched against Lakewood in the play-in game.
No. 3 Santa Ana Mater Dei plays at No. 1 Corona Santiago in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
