Sun Microsystems Inc. introduced two new inexpensive computer servers, beefing up its defenses against encroachments by Dell Computer Corp. and others.
The Sun Fire servers start at less than $3,000 and will be available next month.
Sun also rolled out data storage gear it hopes will take market share from EMC Corp. and other competitors.
Santa Clara, Calif.-based Sun has been cutting costs and making its computers and software more compatible with competing products as it fights the free Linux operating system.
Sun’s shares fell 5 cents to $3.31 on Nasdaq.
