Ayala 75, St. John Bosco 61
Ayala (8-1) went on a 13-0 run in the third quarter to extend an eight point half-time lead in a victory over St. John Bosco. Ayala’s Josh Miller scored 18 points to lead the Bulldogs.
Daniel Hackett led St. John Bosco (6-3) in the loss with 22 points, followed by Kertd Elisaldez with 13 and Gus Fernandez with 12.
Hackett and Fernandez made the all-tournament team.
Third Place
Garey 75, Diamond Ranch 66
Sophomore Jimmy Nguyen made eight out of 10 free throws and scored all 11 of his points in the fourth quarter as Garey (8-4) held off Diamond Ranch (6-3).
First-team, all-tournament selection Willie Cook led Garey with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Dennis Gilleylen scored 18 points and Derrick Pickett had 15.
Dante Smith had 15 points for Diamond Ranch (6-3).
First-year Garey head coach Mike Power, who coached Diamond Ranch two years ago, got his first win against his former team.

Championship Semifinals

Grant senior guard Mike Danielian tied Gilbert Arenas’ school record of 30 points in a half for the second time in three days. He finished with 39 points, including seven three-pointers, and made 14 of 23 field goal attempts. He was held to no points in the third quarter but bounced back with nine in the fourth.
Ryan Vergara scored 15 points for Burroughs, and Junior Spencer added 15. Grant (4-4) plays Kennedy in Monday’s championship at 4:30.

The end of the Jordan Farmar era was expected to provide something of a learning experience for the Woodland Hills Taft boys’ basketball team this season.
But with Farmar now starting as a freshman in the UCLA backcourt, the Toreadors still seem to be following his example.Taft (6-1), ranked No. 18 in the Southland by The Times, posted its second consecutive upset by defeating No. 6 North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, 60-48, in the championship quarterfinals of the Top of the World tournament Saturday night at Cerritos College.
The victory came less than 24 hours after the Toreadors stunned No. 3 Compton Dominguez, 35-33, holding the Dons to 18 percent shooting from the field.
“We have a little more talent than people realize,” Taft Coach Derrick Taylor said.
Calvin Haynes, one of two returning starters for defending City Section champion Taft, scored a team-high 15 points. Albert Brown, a transfer from New York, added 12 points and freshman Larry Drew Jr. scored eight points for the Toreadors, who will face Verbum Dei in the semifinals Monday at Cerritos College. The Eagles were 55-48 winners over Fresno San Joaquin Memorial in another quarterfinal game Saturday.
Ed White led Harvard-Westlake (4-1) with 17 points.

Nate Richardson had 15 of his game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter and Montclair (8-4) outscored Antelope Valley, 24-11, in the period to win the ninth-place game of the Colony tournament.
The Cavaliers, who rallied from a 28-22 halftime deficit, also got 15 points from Larry Gordon.

Senior guard Richard Collins had 15 points and six assists and Chris Fealy added 14 points, going five-of-five from the floor, in a Granite Hills (6-3) victory over Pacific (2-8). Granite Hills used a 21-5 third quarter to take control of the game.

Inglewood hit a lay-up in transition with 10 seconds left in the third overtime to win, spoiling a 46-point performance by Gardena Serra’s Kelvin Wilson. Wilson, a senior guard, was 20 of 23 from the free-throw line, had six steals and eight rebounds.
Inglewood (8-2) seemed to benefit from a clock malfunction late in regulation. With the scoreboard showing two seconds and Gardena Serra (7-3) up by three points, the Cavaliers inbounded the ball near midcourt, dribbled past the center stripe and threw up a three-pointer that went in.
The clock still showed two seconds, and the referees decided to count the basket and send the game into overtime, tied at 56.

Kevin Peterson had 32 points and 17 rebounds and Ray McDounough added nine points and seven rebounds in a St. Francis (4-0) victory over Loma Linda Academy, which was led by Doug Rogers’ 19 points.

Nima Taleb, a 6-foot senior guard, made seven three-point baskets and finished with 26 points to help Villa Park, ranked No. 14 in the Southland by The Times, defeat seventh-ranked Lake Forest El Toro in a semifinal game of the Anaheim district tournament Friday night at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Villa Park (7-0) made just one field goal in the first 7 1/2 minutes, but then converted 11 three-pointers the rest of the way. El Toro (8-1) trailed, 63-48, with just over four minutes remaining, then went on an 11-0 run to close to within 63-59 with 1:27 to play.
Villa Park made seven of eight free throws in the final 41 seconds to seal the victory.Darryl Best and Kelvin Kim each scored 15 points for El Toro.

Mission Viejo (4-2) welcomed back five players, including three starters, from its football team, and two of them largely contributed to the victory. Sunny McCracken, a starting outside linebacker in football, hit the decisive three-pointer with a minute to play. Konrad Reuland, a starting tight end, finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Fountain Valley fell to 6-3.

Junior guard Craig Partovich had 19 points and freshman forward Jin Soo Kim had 16 points for host Montclair Prep (7-2). Animo Leadership is 1-5.
