A confrontation at a Mexican steakhouse in Santa Ana ended violently early Monday when a gunman fatally shot one man and a crowd of customers and security guards subdued the shooter and another attacker, police said.
The scene unfolded about 12:45 a.m. at El Zocalo Mexican Grill and Seafood while dozens of people were inside the restaurant, said Santa Ana police Capt. Anthony Bertagna. Two or three men got into a confrontation with a second group, and one of the men in the first group pulled out a gun and fired, he said.
One man was shot and died at the scene, and two of the attackers were injured by customers and security personnel when they were subdued, Bertagna said. Additionally, one person sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital while a fourth person who was injured was treated at a hospital and released, he said.
Bertagna said it was not immediately clear whether the shooting was the result of a confrontation that began at the restaurant or if it was connected to a previous dispute.
Two suspects in the case are expected to be taken into custody after being treated, police said. The investigation into the incident is ongoing and the identity of the victim has not been released.
