Football: Crenshaw, Garfield defenses take charge in scrimmage

Marquis Lawson performs well for Crenshaw

Coaches Lorenzo Hernandez of Garfield and Robert Garrett of Crenshaw were jovial before Thursday’s scrimmage at Crenshaw, and both took away some good things done by their respective teams afterward.
The defenses had their moments. Marquis Williams of Garfield made an exceptional interception. Defensive end Derek Moore of Crenshaw showed he’ll be an effective pass rusher.
Garfield’s offensive line has some size and should do well. Crenshaw quarterback Daiyan Henley, after a slow start, began to get the ball to standout two-way player Marquis Lawson, who will be one of the best players in the City Section.
Both teams have much to work on and face tough openers next week. Crenshaw plays at Mission Hills in San Diego. Garfield plays Alemany.
But by season’s end, both teams should be in the City Section Division I playoff picture while trying to challenge heavily favorted Narbonne.
