Undefeated middleweight prospect Antoine Douglas (18-0-1, 12 knockouts) headlines Showtime’s ShoBox card Friday night against Les Sherrington (35-7, 30 KOs) in downtown Las Vegas.
Douglas, from Burke, Va., is making his fifth appearance on the series and is now ranked as the World Boxing Assn.’s No. 9 contender.
In a Showtime interview, Douglas discussed his tough road, as his mother’s drug abuse forced his siblings and him to live with a relative.
“The earliest memory from my childhood would be getting dropped off at my aunt’s house when I was a baby,” Douglas said in the interview.
“At the time, my mom was in a predicament … so she was aware she was unable to take care of me and my brothers.
“We were at my aunt’s house and there were a lot of altercations there, and my aunt decided that it was too much for her -- too much of a toll on her -- so she decided to put us all in foster care.”
By age 19, Douglas turned pro. He’s now considered a talent capable of meeting some of the middleweight divisions top-ranked fighters in 2016.
ShoBox will air tape-delayed on Showtime at 10 p.m. Pacific, 7 p.m. Pacific on Showtime East.
