Boeing’s Dreamliner: Want to get on board? Flights start Nov. 1

The first Dreamliner 787, emblazoned with “787” on the front fuselage, was officially turned over to Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways in a delivery ceremony Monday in Everett, Wash. The long-awaited new commercial jetliner from Boeing features larger windows, better air quality in the cabin areas, LED lighting, bigger seats and other cushy comforts.
So when will you be able to fly on one? November, if you’re in Tokyo (or going to be there).
All Nippon Airways plans special inaugural passenger flights from Tokyo’s Narita International Airport to Hong Kong on Oct. 26 with a return flight the next day. The plane also will fly “excursion flights” from Narita on Oct. 28 and 29. (Seats on these chartered flights were offered lottery-style earlier in September.)
Regular domestic service will begin Nov. 1 from Haneda Airport in Tokyo to Okayama and Hiroshima as well as the first international passenger flight from Haneda to Beijing, according to All Nippon Airways’ website. In January, long-haul international service begins between Tokyo and Frankfurt.
