SHOOTING AT KANSAS FROM THE HIP
Toto is still stuck in the tornado in McDougal’s Kansas story. He missed one cliche: “It was a dark and stormy night. . . .”
“Most people do wear overalls . . .” is like saying most California people wear punk rock clothes, hair-do’s, etc.
The turnpike from Kansas City to Lawrence crosses beautiful gentle rolling hills of farm land, pasture and woods. No prairie dogs; they’re 200 miles west in the flat wheatland area.
I am a Kansas Jayhawk happy to be in California. The next time you need “filler” consider a Kansas writer to do a Hollywood story through the eyes of L.A. street people. That’s how she ain’t, not how McDougal says “she be.”
