Newest Missile Cruiser Has Wraparound Radar

BATH, Me. — The Navy launched its new guided-missile cruiser Cowpens Saturday at the Bath Iron Works. The cruiser, the latest of the Ticonderoga class, is named for the Revolutionary War battle fought Jan. 17, 1781, near Cowpens, S. C. The ship has a wraparound radar system that can “see” in all directions at once.
