Travelers Adds $325 Million to Reserves: The company said it is boosting its property-casualty reserves for asbestos and other environmental claims and litigation and as a result expects a loss for the third quarter. The addition will result in an after-tax charge of $211 million, or $1.44 per common share in the quarter. The Travelers Corp. will report its third-quarter results Monday. Without the after-tax charge, operating results will show an improvement, the company said. New York-based Primerica Corp., which owns 27% of Travelers and has an agreement to merge the two companies, said the loss will have no impact on Primerica’s third-quarter or 12-month results.
