A Taxing Matter in Britain
Britain-bound? Be prepared to tack on another $16 or so for a new departure tax at British airports. Passengers traveling within Britain and to European Union countries (as well as Austria, Finland and Norway) pay about $8; for all other destinations, including the United States, the tax is about $16. (Transfers don’t pay, and those on round trips to and from the same airport within Britain pay only once.) The tax is added to air fares--so at least you don’t have to fork over the 10 pounds at the airport as you’re leaving.
