Suitcase Suggestion

Regarding “Airlines Taking Measures to Size Up Your Luggage” (Travel Insider, Nov. 13): I hope the airlines start putting the squeeze on passengers who bring all their worldly possessions on board. I have often wondered what would happen in an emergency if all those people were seated several seats away from their possessions, since they are probably not about to leave the plane without their luggage. Sheer panic. I have a suggestion. Airlines could install remote-control locks on the overhead compartments. Passengers without carry-on luggage would get off first, then the overhead storage would be unlocked. It usually takes 10 minutes or more to even think about deplaning, and getting beat over the head with other people’s bags ruins my trip.
