Westside : Road Closed by Mudslide in Malibu Is Reopened
- Share via
Kanan Dume Road in Malibu, closed since mid-March from a mudslide, reopened Thursday night in time for weekend beach-goers and sightseers.
The slide deposited about 25,000 yards of debris on the road--150 feet wide and 200 feet high.
Crews from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works have cleared away the dirt and secured the hillside to prevent debris from falling onto the road, said Donna Guyovich, a Department of Public Works spokeswoman. The slide was caused by a buildup of moisture in the soil, Guyovich said.
