* * 1/2 Monifah, “Moods . . . Moments,” Uptown/Universal. Monifah’s low-key charms shine on a few cuts, most notably “You,” a dreamy groove that the Spanish Harlem native handles with ease. Producer Heavy D establishes a velvety flow on “I Miss You (Come Back Home),” and that’s fine--but this album’s relentlessly mellow mood could have stood a little elevating. Monifah can’t possibly be this laid-back, can she?
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good), four stars (excellent).
