In the Air in a Beautiful Balloon

Getting up at the crack of dawn might be fine for birds and worms, but some people may have trouble with it. But it will be worth the effort to rise early this weekend for the Hot Air Balloon and Music Festival in Chino. Dozens of hot air balloons will lift off at about 7:30 a.m. (gates open at 6 a.m. for breakfast) for the Hare and the Hound competition, in which professional balloonists (the hounds) accumulate points by hitting the target (designated by the hare).
Tethered balloon rides will be offered Saturday and Sunday, along with amusement rides, children’s activities, food and entertainment. Headliners for the concerts each day are Gary Puckett (Saturday) and Eddie Rabbitt (Sunday).
The event runs Saturday, 6 a.m.-10 p.m., and Sunday, 6 a.m.-7 p.m., at Prado Park, 16700 S. Euclid Ave., Chino. Admission is $10; ages 5-12, $4. Information: (909) 597-4260.
