‘90210’ Closure Means So Long to Peach Pit

After all these years, it seems hard to believe, the Peach Pit closed its doors for good Wednesday night. The B.H. hot spot not only served up a sizable shake with those fries, but when David Silver got the dough to open up the Peach Pit “After Dark,” things really got cooking. Yeah, he booked some weird bands in his heyday, but when he hit the dance floor, that alone was worth the price of admission. . . . All right, so the Peach Pit only existed in “Beverly Hills, 90210” (R.I.P.). But God, we loved that fantasy. A word of advice to all you wildcatters with a buck in your pocket: Open up a Peach Pit on the Westside, throw up some ‘50s memorabilia, hire some actor-waiters and say “ka-ching!”

Back in the real world, the owners of Hugo’s famed restaurant--L.A.’s original breakfast hang--is set to open the doors of its San Fernando Valley location in June at the corner of Riverside Drive and Coldwater Canyon. Splendid they’re bringing some class to ye olde Valley. . . . The L.A. Press Club should be way stoked that it chose to relocate to downtown’s historic San Fernando building at 4th and Main streets. By the time it makes its move, the building should already have a bar-lounge and new restaurant operated by Marc Smith and Cedd Moses, two heavies in Hollywood’s night life. North and C Bar are among their ventures. They’re aiming for a September opener. . . . Pop, the Thursday dance club at the Playroom, has been canceled but looks like promoter Brent Bolthouse has already hooked up a new Wednesday night scene at Las Palmas (he also promotes Mondays at Dublin’s Irish Whiskey Pub). . . . In other Las Palmas news, Jeff Goldblum is back in the nightclub saddle, performing every Monday at the swanky new Mexican restaurant. . . . Downtown’s luscious Cicada restaurant’s just started a new Tuesday night promotion called “Tuesdays on the Mezzanine.” Promoter Kenneth Reynolds says he’s trying to “re-create the era of the ultimate nightclub,” aiming for a ‘30s-style upscale arty-classy-jazzy R&B; scene.
