The planet Venus shines brilliantly low in the southwest at twilight. Venus looks white because it reflects sunlight. It is 116 million miles from Earth. A few degrees to the lower left of Venus is Antares, the brightest star in Scorpius, the Scorpion. Antares is orange in color because it is a cool star, and it is about 500 light years from Earth--about 25 million times as distant as Venus. Venus appears 100 times brighter than Antares.
