Senior Volunteers to Give Free Tax Help
Volunteers from the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program are donating their time to provide taxpayers with free help preparing their taxes every Tuesday and Thursday through April 12.
“We have a number of volunteers so that no one has to wait in line,” said Jackie Lund of the RSVP program. “It’s a completely voluntary thing, and all of our volunteers go through a full month of training with the IRS.”
Tax assistance will be provided from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays. No appointments will be taken, as the service is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Taxpayers are asked to bring their 1999 tax returns, all state and federal forms for 2000, and records including property taxes paid, interest paid, medical expenses paid, casualty losses, charitable contributions, donations of goods, W2s and all 1099s for Social Security income, interest received, mortgage income and lottery winnings.
