Visit to the DMV Takes a Positive Turn
It has been fashionable of late to regard any governmental bureaucracy as inherently inferior to private enterprise. In particular, I recently heard a trip to the Department of Motor Vehicles compared unfavorably with a visit to the dentist for a root canal. Last week I made an appointment with the Pasadena office of the DMV to obtain a salvage registration, a rather involved process. I arrived at 8:53 a.m. for my 9 a.m. appointment and went to the “Start Here” window. The procedure necessitated a vehicle inspection, filling out two forms and paying a fee. By 9:22 a.m. I departed the office with new registration and plates in hand. I was assisted by three DMV employees, each of whom was friendly, efficient and unflappable.
The next time you need to visit the DMV, call for an appointment and take your smile with you. Like thousands of other government employees, they work hard to provide important services and deserve our gratitude and our respect.
